My Review:

As someone who draws strength from nature, I absolutely love how Audley Stephenson started our conversation on his Audacious Living podcast.

After introducing the image of a garden, his reference to the requisite care and attention led to the similar attentiveness required to succeed in our journey through life.  As is the case with growing fruits and vegetables, it’s necessary to make plans to our life plan as circumstances continue to shift and evolve.

One essential element of this process is keying into our personal strengths.

When Audley made this comment, I immediately thought of one of my favorite consultant tools—the SWOT analysis. In case that term is new to you, it is the process by which we identify our Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.  As a result of this identification, we can apply out strengths to offset if not overcome our weaknesses, pursue exciting new opportunities and minimize potential threats.

By way of bonus as Audley so rightly pointed out, when applying our strengths, we create supportive momentum that will help carry us forward to our desired outcome. This in turn leads to the gratifying experience of life getting better, the better life gets.

As is the case with great podcast interviews like this one, the experience was more like a collaborative mutually enjoyable conversation than a formal question and answer interrogation.  As an engaged participant, I had the opportunity of sharing some of my life lessons learned as well as benefiting from the questions and comments coming my way.

From my perspective the conversation generated two significant takeaways.

One is the importance of celebrating each every achievement on our personal journeys through life. As the importance of each achievement increases, so does the level of celebration.  You have after earned the right to celebrate whatever you have made happen.  Don’t hide your light under a bushel.

Secondly, whenever things don’t work out as expected, don’t beat yourself else.  Bad things happen to good people like you.  But instead of dwelling on the disappointment, refocus on what you can learn from the experience.  Given that experience is the best teacher, the school of hard knocks offers excellent learning opportunities.

And what a rich learning opportunity it was chatting with Audley.  Thank you so much!
